With your help, we have accomplished our goal for 2011 – to build a new micro-giving project that allows anyone to give just a small amount, but make a huge difference for a deserving family. And Just Like That, It’s a Wrap.

Hi Friends :)

One year ago, at the very beginning of 2011, we were announcing the launch of Love Drop, not quite certain about what we were going to do, or how we were going to do it, but tremendously excited about the possibilities. And today, at the very beginning of 2012, we come to you in exactly the same way . . . with the added thoughts of great satisfaction and thankfulness for a job well done.

With your help, we have accomplished our goal for 2011 – to build a new micro-giving project that allowed anyone to give just a small amount, but make a huge difference for a deserving family. Together we gave over $90,000 this year to 12 families who will never be the same thanks to your generosity.

(And speaking of families, make sure to check out the final Drop video we just did with Diomi and Nalee! We went back to where it all started in Milwaukee, and surprised them with the best Christmas ever :))

Thank you all so, so much for being a part of the journey with us this year. We’ve connected with hundreds of new friends as a result of Love Drop, and you know we’ll continue to be in touch as we go. This phase of Love Drop may be over, but you better believe we’re always cooking up something big!

For now, though, we bring 2011 to a close, and thank each and every one of you again from the bottom of our hearts; not only for supporting us these past 12 months, but more importantly for *believing* in us and what our project stood for. We wish you nothing but love and joy in the new year ahead, and we will always remember what an incredible team we had here.

As always, God bless, and we’ll see you on the interwebs.

– Nate & J$

P.S. Check out our compilation video up top capturing some of our favorite moments of the entire project. Shout out to Matt Kearney for allowing us to incorporate one of his brilliant songs in it.

P.P.S. Remember that everything you do to spread love to others MATTERS, even the little things! So keep it up in 2012, okay? :)

Marci’s Love Drop!

(Episode #4 of 4)

WE DID IT, TEAM! We gave Marci and her entire family a handful of WONDERFUL vacations together – it was so fun! You’ll have to watch the video to see how we presented them all (we thought it was pretty clever, hehe) but here are a handful of the AWESOME gifts we gave them:

— A family trip for five to Aruba!! Including lodging, airfare, food, and even spending money!
— A romantic trip for two to New York city :)
— And many many other wonderful surprises, including a brand new nice camera (woo!).

You all really out did yourselves this month, and we couldn’t be more proud. THANK YOU for making such positive change with us all year long, you’ve touched so many lives!

[To check out the pictures, click here.]

  • We sent Marci and her entire family to ARUBA!!! – You guys did it! Our mission was to get them to spend more quality time together, and WOW did y’all come up with some whoppers :) The first being an ALL-INCLUSIVE family of 5 trip to Aruba including all airfare (thanks Joni & Wally!), lodging (a house 1 mile from the beach – thanks Kim!), $500 worth food!, and a $1,000 shopping spree – perfect for any scuba diving or other family activities they may wanna do together while there. A one-week vacation of bliss. Doesn’t get more relaxing than that!
  • We then gave them a romantic weekend for TWO to New York city! Because we all know parents need a break from there loving kids too :) So with help from some *awesome* people out there, we were able to send Marci and Dave on a round-trip getaway to NYC to not only spend some quality time together as a couple, but to also check out some night life (Thx Goldstar!) and a fancy pants dinner with each other too. And did we mention they’ll be staying at the downtown Times Square Marriott? Woohoo!
  • Also hooked them up with a family getaway to Estes Park – a local attraction filled with family friendly activities and quaint lodging. Perfect for a little relaxing and unwinding time close by whenever they need it :)
  • Got them a brand new Canon camera & lens too!! So they can take alllllll the photos they want, on alllll the adventures they’ll soon be going on. Best Buy hooked them up with a nice bag and other goodies like filters and a memory stick too – nothing but the best for our Love Drop recipients! :)
  • Filled a suitcase full of fun items and packages — Esp. for their trip to Aruba like bright t-shirts (that spell out A-R-U-B-A, haha… good idea Melissa!), maps and travel books, stuffed animals, and the one thing we always forget when we go away — toiletries! Fellow Love Drop member Edward was thoughtful enough to fill up 5 little bags full of goodies for them so they’ll always be prepared ;) Good one, Ed!
  • Gave them a $250 Gift card to Macaroni Grill — Compliments of the team over there! To help with food during all the times their family needs a break from cooking :)
  • A $100 Visa card – From dear friend and Love Drop member, ColoradoMom! (Which was certainly fitting considering we were in Colorado this month! Hehe :))
  • A $25 Target gift card – From another awesome person!
  • 6 months of meal plans from MealPlanRescue.com – our yearly partner!
  • And 6 months worth of coaching services through Hope Couching – for anytime Marci, or any of her family members, just need some private time to talk and get some refreshing advice. We love you for always offering this up, Ronae!

Another incredible success, team! Y’all just keep bringing the love and making these Drops amazing month in and month out. Give yourselves a hearty pat on the back – way to spread the positivity :)

Special thanks goes out to both Emily and Melissa too for not only helping to organize a lot of this month’s festivities, but also for stepping in and helping with the photography and capturing all of the great moments we shared together. Thank you so very much for helping us to pull it off!

Love Drop #12: Diomi & Nalee

Meet Diomi and Nalee :)

This Christmas we’re coming together for Diomi and her son Nalee, who are going into the cold Milwaukee winter with very little food, clothes, and other necessities. Diomi has been through so much, including the loss of her father, the loss of her job, and clinical depression. But even through the pain you can see all the love she has for Nalee, who has one of the most beautiful personalities you’ll find. :)

We want to make this month special for them! We’re working with their pastor to help get things they really need, including school uniforms for Nalee, interview clothes for Diomi as she looks for a job, and food to help them through the winter months. Let’s make our very last Love Drop special!

Goal: $3,000
$3,342.16
Drop Some Love

heartWhere Your Money Goes

We were touched by Diomi’s story, but even beyond that, we were blown away by Nalee. This kid has a sweet, kind soul, with so much love for his mom and for the few blessings that they do have. When we learned that he has to wear the same clothes to school every day of the week, we knew we had to help. (They wash his uniform by hand once a week and let it air dry in the house over the weekend – they don’t have money to go to the laundromat.)

Many of us have been in a spot where money was tight, but to have a kid like Nalee have his self esteem broken because he can’t afford clothes for school is unacceptable. Let’s do what we can to give them an extra joyful Christmas this year!

heartWhy We’re Helping This Family

We know of a lot of people who would like this or that to make their Christmas better this year. But Diomi and Nalee actually need things to improve their lives. Basic things like food, clothes, personal hygiene products, and the biggest of all – hope. Hope that their lives won’t always be this hard, that there are people in this world who care about them and are already working to help get them where they need to be.

We want the Love Drop team to be a big part of lifting this family up. If you can find it in your hearts to give one extra gift this year, whether it be money or a helpful item they can use, please send it in – our goal is to reach $3,000 worth of necessities.

Let’s end 2011 the way we started it . . . with love.

Episode #3: Fight, Fundraise, Foster Hope… Repeat

(Episode #3 of 4)

Marci’s cancer is back and her family knows exactly what to do, support her fight. Marci knows her condition cannot be cured but it can be treated, which is why she donates so much of her time to creating awareness and fundraising for cancer research.

Over the past 7 years she has seen firsthand the improvement in cancer treatment because of money raised from campaigns including the Avon Walk For Breast Cancer. Marci has a fighter’s spirit who tells her family and others with cancer, “don’t count us out. We’re going to get back up and be stronger than before.”

Let’s give this strong woman and her tough family a little time to connect in a way that doesn’t involve cancer. Put on your Mickey Mouse ears and let’s think FAMILY FUN!

Episode #2: Marci Leads Her Incredible Army

(Episode #2 of 4)

Marci’s family and friends know the depth of her strength because they’ve watched her fight breast cancer. . . twice. Although they’re banding together again and gearing up to help her fight a third battle with this disease, they say she is the one who inspires and encourages them to push forward.

A recent two-time triathlete, Marci isn’t letting this latest diagnosis stop her from living life to its full potential. Cancer may be stealing her health but she’s trying to stay one step ahead of it. Now more than ever, she lives in the moment and encourages others to do the same.

This month, we want you to be part of Marci’s Army. Let’s help stop her world for just a few days so she can soak up precious moments with her husband and children. We know we can do this for her. Help us give her the best gift right now – time!

In Which We Drop Love on The Triplets!

(Episode #3 of 3)

Talk about a baby success! Y’all raised over $2,000 in cash and gifts, and we were able to surprise Jeff & Becca with a VAN FULL of baby supplies! And it only took us 6 hours to go out and buy, haha… (you’ll see our Babies “R” Us spree and antics in the video ;)). Overall we were able to show up with over 2,300 diapers, 2,700 baby wipes, 480 servings of formula, 3 high chairs, a large crib, TONS of toys and clothes, and enough detergent for over 740 loads of laundry. It was quite the celebration, let me tell you.

And it just goes to show again how IMPACTFUL each and every one of your single acts of kindness can have when joined together for a specific mission. In 30 days you affected 3 of the most beautiful babies around, and the whole family will be forever grateful. Way to go, team!

[To check out the pictures, click here.]

  • We dropped off over $2,500 worth of baby stuff! – Do you know how many carts that fills up?? Haha… (4). Our good friends over at Babies “R” Us hooked us up with some discounts, and we went all out shopping for a solid 4 hours making sure we got those babies as many of the essentials as we could (not to mention an additional Costco run for some of the bigger bulk items!). And we give mad thanks to Heather, our nominator this month, for helping us along in the process too – we would have been lost without her! :)

So GREAT JOB with all the money this month, everyone — You REALLY made a difference in these triplets’ lives! Check out all the stuff we gave them:

  • 2,304 Diapers (Over 10 huge boxes worth!)
  • 2,700 Wipes (those babies can be messy! :))
  • 748 Loads worth of detergent (again, they’re messy!)
  • 480 Servings of baby formula (which is not cheap, wow)
  • 3 High chairs (each with cool-looking monkeys on them ;))
  • 3 Swings (one of which we had never seen before? Kinda cool the new stuff out there)
  • 1 Large play pen (which looked like it could convert to bunk beds for the babies! Haha… it had all sorts of different levels and toys built in :))
  • 1 Nice stroller (they already had one which fit two, so now the set’s complete! Thanks Shannon!)
  • 3 CUTE snowsuits! Two blues and one pink ;)
  • $500 worth of toys and other baby items (wayyyyy too many to mention, but let’s just say it filled an entire shopping cart and a half! Blankets, games, squishy things, you name it. If it was baby-related, we probably picked up 3 of them ;))
  • A gift bag from the Indianapolis Colts! Stuffed w/ awesomely branded animals and well wishes (Thanks Colts! And Jessica for sharing the triplets’ story with them :))
  • TWO complete Date nights! Which consists of two fancy dinners, followed by tickets to the movies and FREE baby sitting by a close friend of theirs. Gotta make sure the parents have breaks!
  • A $150 gas card to help get them there and back, as well as for other daily trips that are always needed :)
  • $75 worth of Babies “R” Us gift cards: Thanks again Trinnie and Jessica!
  • 4 Tickets to the Children’s Museum‘s Haunted House! (Thanks Heather and Children’s Museum!)
  • A Nintendo Wii :) For the whole family to play and spend some fun times together.
  • A gift bag of beauty goodness from Sarah – Thanks so much for driving all the way over to celebrate with everyone!
  • 6 months of meal plans courtesy of MealPlanRescue.com (Thanks for always participating!)
  • 6 months of coaching services from JRRSEHopeCoaching.com – Solutions for midlife parents, troubled teens, single moms & career challenges.
  • And a photo book from GroupStory to capture the entire Drop’s celebrations.

WAY TO GO guys!! These babies are gonna be sooooooo taken care of for quite a while – give your selves some pats on the back :) So amazing how everyone’s efforts combined can create such a larger impact in such a small amount of time we have every month. Keep up the great work!!

*Special thanks to Casey Mullins for her awesome Photography skills!

Love Drop #11: Marci!

November 2011 – Marci

This month we’re coming together for Marci, a super strong wife and mom of three from Colorado who’s beaten breast cancer twice already. Now she’s been diagnosed with Stage IV cancer that’s spread into her lungs and lymph nodes. She’s spent the better part of the last decade fundraising for cancer research, and also spending time with those affected by it.

The most important thing in Marci’s life is quality time with her family, so we want to give them an all-expense-paid vacation before she begins her toughest battle yet.

Let’s get creative – airline miles, timeshares, destination packages, money – whatever we can do! Email us ideas

Drop Some Love

heartWhere Your Money Goes

Marci and her family are burdened with huge medical bills right now, but when we talked to her on the phone, the overwhelming feeling we got was that she adores her family and wants everyone to be able to relax a little bit and forget about all the stress of not one, not two, but now three huge battles with a life-threatening disease. She cares about them so much and wants to do what she can to help them enjoy life, which is very difficult right now.

Any of us in the same situation would probably use any extra money toward medical bills, so that’s why this month we want to instead focus on giving Marci and family the gift of quality time together. Let’s send them somewhere amazing and help them form memories that will last forever! We’re looking for creative ideas this month… financial gifts too, but also anything that will help them escape together for a while.

heartWhy We’re Helping This Family

This family has been a constant source of inspiration ever since Marci was first diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2004. They’ve worked through all the pain in their own lives together, but beyond that, they’ve helped other families struggling with the same thing.

In addition to fundraising for cancer research and support, Marci has volunteered her time with patients, many times sitting with them and holding their hands even ‘til the end. Her teenage daughter is a champion swimmer, and uses her platform to speak about cancer, support, and current needs in the fight against it all over the country.

They’ve all been so strong for so long, and now it’s our turn. Let’s provide them with a chance to rest, relax, and simply enjoy each other in a lovely atmosphere. We can give them that gift.

Melanie’s Love Drop!!

(Episode #4 of 4)

Melanie’s Love Drop was a lot of fun, guys! We had yet another big turnout of friends and family who came to celebrate with us and provide extra help, gifts, and general goodwill. We were also able to do something we’ve never done before . . . we worked with Kim, Melanie’s sponsor, to live-stream the entire event! We had a laptop set up to watch all the action, with viewers taking part of the Drop from all over the country. Very cool.

Our goal was to provide Melanie with a way to get back some of her “regular” life during her recovery period, and we’re happy to say that you all made it happen! We were able to give her three brand-new appliances (washer, dryer and stove) with front-facing controls that she can operate from her wheelchair (with a fun little “move that truck!” cheer to boot). Check out the video to watch how it all went down :)

Total stuff given to Melanie:
[To check out the pictures, click here.]

  • An $1,800 Washer & Dryer set!! – We did it guys! We raised over $3,000 to make this Drop special for Melanie and family! And part of that went to picking up this “sexy” (as Melanie called them) front-loading washer and dryer set so she can super easily do laundry again. We even got to shout “Move That Truck!” when we were presenting them to her, haha… it was brilliant. HUGE shout out to Lowes for hooking us up with a *crazy* discount too. They made it their mission to help us after hearing Melanie’s story, and really went above and beyond for us. Also props to Anthony for INSTALLING these after the Drop was over! We got a killer community my friends, way to go :)
  • A $1300 Slide-in Electric Stove! – With front-facing nobs so Melanie can now COOK again!! Something she is incredibly passionate about, and something she couldn’t do for the past 2-3 months because of her wheelchair. We hope you’re making great use of it, Melanie!! And way to go again, team, for pulling off that $3k goal of ours — that helped facilitate this purchase too.
  • $300 Grocery Store Credit – Since Lowes gave us such a discount w/ all the appliances, we had a few hundred dollars left over which we wanted to spoil Melanie with once her stove was installed all the way. So we got her $300 worth of credit at her local store so she can stock her fridge full of ANY food she wants! Kid-friendly, or not ;)
  • $200 MORE dollars at her grocery store! – The ladies of Galtime also had the great idea of stocking her fridge, and donated $200 more to her food passion :) Thanks Galtime! It was awesome seeing you at the Drop too – meant alot.
  • A brand new iRobot Roomba! – The folks over at iRobot were also moved by Melanie’s story and wanted to help out as well! So they donated a VERY cool top of the line Roomba to help out with vacuuming her house. Automatically too! Very cool idea – thanks iRobot!
  • A TON of wheelchair-friendly gifts – A few of our Love Drop members are in wheelchairs themselves (and also just love shopping for cool stuff!) and were kind enough to mail over some fabulous accessories for Melanie :) Including a cup holder (awesome!), lap-desk, saddle bag, and more. And when the Drop was all over, Melanie told us she will be donating ALL of her wheelchair stuff – including the chair itself and her entire electric system for her stairs – to another person who can use it once she’s out. She’s calling it her own “Mini-Drop,” Yay!!!
  • Bags full of Boston Redsox items ;) For all of her kids. Hats, jerzies, you name it. It’s a good thing they’re huge fans or that could have been troublesome! Haha… Thanks for doing this Jessica!
  • A ton of other gift bags. — Everyone who attended the Drop brought some goodies of their own to present – including snacks, gifts, and a whole bunch of other great stuff. Thanks so much everyone! And for being their in person too – that was incredible :)
  • 6 Tickets to the New England Aquarium — Thanks so much Aquarium!
  • 6 Tickets to their IMAX Theater– Also courtesy of the New England Aquarium :)
  • $75 Gift card to Lowes – Awesome! Great job, guys!
  • $15 Gift card to Bed, Bath and Beyond – Always a great choice ;)
  • A Coach Bag!! – Sent in from our good friend, and Love Drop member, Trinnie Doo (Thanks!)
  • Family tickets to an outing of their choice! $100 worth – Courtesy of Goldstar.com (thx guys!)
  • 6 months of meal plans courtesy of MealPlanRescue.com (Thanks for always participating!)
  • 6 months of coaching services from JRRSEHopeCoaching.com – Solutions for midlife parents, troubled teens, single moms & career challenges.
  • A photo book from GroupStory to capture the entire Drop’s celebrations.

We also live-streamed the whole event! Out totally awesome friend, and sponsor of Melanie’s Drop, Kim from Mommycosm hooked us up w/ the technology to steam the whole 1 and 1/2 hour event to those online who wanted to participate but couldn’t be there in person. It was fun! Thanks so much Kim! (And if anyone ever needs help/advice with that stuff, make sure to give her a shout.)

Kim put together a VERY touching movie compilation too. Which we all sat around to and watched on TV as a handful of Melanie’s close friends wished her the very best in recovery. It was beautiful :) And at the end Kim’s daughter sang an *amazing* rendition of Lean On Me for Melanie too – an absolute highlight of the day’s celebration.

Great job everyone! We pulled through yet again, and really surprised Melanie and family with some incredible stuff. You all are getting good at this ;) See you next month! (Special thanks also to our two awesome photographers who came out and gave their time (and skills) for the event: Sage Brousseau and Isabel Furie. Y’all were great!)

Episode #2: Grow Babies, Grow!

(Episode #2 of 3)

After spending weeks in the NICU, triplets Aaron, Jeffery and Aleana are getting bigger and healthier by the day :) Weighing in at a whopping 6 pounds each (huge in preemie terms) these little dolls are almost ready to come home and that’s going to be a big challenge for parents, Jeff and Becca.

With four people already busting the seams on their 900 sq foot trailer home, when the triplets arrive in a few weeks, it’s really going to be a tight fit. Jeff is already looking forward to his Thanksgiving turkey and Becca will be thankful to have her babies home but right now they just wonder how they’re going to make it work. We know we can help!

These babies are going to need a lot and babies are super fun to shop for. Their stuff is so darn cute. Aaron, Jeffery and Aleana have already fought so hard. Let’s make sure they have everything they need when they finally come home!

Love Drop Partners With FINCON11 To Give Back :)

Hey Guys! We just came back from our very first Financial Blogging Conference (which for me, J$, is huge because my entire online personal finance family was there!), and we had the honor of kicking it all off together with a service project :) A perfect way for everyone to get to know each other more and share some love at the same time.

Jill, our first Love Drop recipient, recommended we help out the organization Phil’s Friends – a center providing support and hope to those affected by cancer – and it worked out incredibly! Our goals were to show up with 50 volunteers and $500 in cash to help them out, and we ended up with over 70 awesome souls and $1200 in cash – incredible!!

Here’s what one volunteer had to say about it:

“Loved this!! What a great way to meet people before the event and give back to the community. Excellent. It was wonderful to be able to help their organization, especially with something that would have taken them days to accomplish. We did it in a few hours and it not only didn’t cost them a penny, but we were able to make a significant financial contribution. I would love to do something again next year.”

If you were one of the people who came out, THANK YOU! This was the first event Love Drop has organized outside of our own stuff here, and to say we were overwhelmed with support is an understatement :) We’ll of course continue to do our monthly Drops each month, but we wanted to try something new and we were super excited we did. Maybe we’ll do more?

If you want to learn more about the FINCON/LOVE DROP partnership, click here. Have a great week!

PS: That video up there is a quick 3 min recap of how it all went down – check it out :)

Love Drop #10: The Triplets

October 2011 – The Triplets

This month we’re helping Jeff and Becca from Indianapolis prepare to bring their new triplets home from the hospital. All three were born very underweight and are currently in Neonatal ICU, but are doing well and will be coming home soon. With four children already, adding a surprise batch of triplets is going to put considerable financial strain on the family, and that’s where we come in!

Let’s help give them everything they need to welcome the triplets home, including diapers, food, furniture, gift cards – any cool baby stuff you can think of. We’re shooting for at least $3,000 in cash, plus gifts. Let’s do this!

Goal: $3,000
$2,066.49
Drop Some Love

Where Your Money Goes

We’re going to direct everything we raise this month toward taking care of these new babies. Jeff and Becca live in a very small trailer home that’s already quite full with four other children. Now with a total of seven kids, it’s a lot to handle all at once. Diapers alone are going to run hundreds of dollars per month! Let’s give them a big supply of those, along with a ton of other baby stuff.

And if you could find a way to help us get them a single-family home, that would be awesome too. ;)

For all of you who have had children of your own, you understand the amazing joy they bring, but also the incredible amount of responsibility that comes with them. It’s always a bit scary (especially financially) to bring a new baby home, right? Now imagine bringing home three at once – wow! Time for us to help out…

heartWhy We’re Helping This Family

Even though these two don’t have much, they still give back as a family. Becca will often cook extra food for dinner and invite over other kids from the neighborhood to help feed them when they don’t have enough to eat.

It’s a tough time financially for Jeff and Becca right now, and many of us have been there before . . . uncertain about our children’s future, let alone our own. But now that we’ve made it through, it’s a great time for us to extend a helping hand to them, and let them know that everything will turn out okay. Let’s surprise the Nevins family with a GREAT Love Drop this month!

Episode #3: Stronger Than Steel… Obviously ;)

(Episode #3 of 4)

Even though Melanie wakes up every morning to face the pain and physical limitations of her accident, she’s trying not to let it get her down. When the tears come, and they do, she wipes them away and instead, focuses on taking care of her family and others around her. Melanie is using her task-oriented, independent streak to help her through this difficult time.

Melanie’s injuries were caused by a distracted driver. It was senseless and could’ve been prevented. When you drive, don’t text, don’t dial, and keep those hands at 10 and 2, people! Melanie is on the mend and you can bet she will use this experience as a teaching tool, especially for her 16-year-old son, Aidan. As a new driver, there is no doubt, his eyes will be on the road at all times.

Let’s help make this long road to recovery a little easier for Melanie :) Her Drop goes down next week – be a part of it!
